I've obviously not had a chance to get acquainted with her yet, and she doesn't even have a name. This is my first computerized sewing machine, so it'll take me a minute or two to read the manual and get her up and running ;)
In honor of my new friend, let's have a little contest, shall we???
*Leave me a comment with your best name idea for my Janome 6500. I will select my favorite comment by Sunday evening 9/27.
* The winner will receive a generous fabric remnant from one of my new fabric designs, "Storybook Mushrooms" and the bragging rights of being the most creative name-giver ever...
BEST OF LUCK! xo, Ariel
Congratulations on your new arrival! You're going to love her. I think LuluBelle would be a great name for her!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I think she looks like a Suzie...
ReplyDeleteOoo, pretty I think that her name should be Matilda...
ReplyDelete'cause I like it:) Happy Sewing!
HMMM, I'm not so creative on the names, I call my Bernina...Nina..I know, SO creative. But Nina is the bad A lady on 24 so I think it fits. Anyways, I think you should call it Bertha, or Louise, or Jan. Have fun with it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I love my 6600 and have not named her yet even thought her first birthday is next week. I really love the name Mitzi and used it to name my dress form (years ago), so I cannot use it for my machine as well. But you could!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I heart all your fabrics. Have you thought about creating a line for a textile manufacturer?
If you're not TOTALLY sick of Little Mermaid comments about your name, the machine could be Flounder- Ariel's sidekick!
ReplyDeleteHow about Ja'Gnome, because of your love of gnomes? Or you can even name it Willard, after the ja'Gnome in your fabric! : )
ReplyDeleteGlenda...I like Glenda
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new machine looks like a great one. I like joy.. for all the joy she will bring you ..hehe
ReplyDeleteI love the name Tula. If if I ever get another felmale chihuahua, that is what I will name her. Enjoy your new baby.
ReplyDeleteI say name her sweat n' tears. I know how much work you did to earn this baby! I am so excited for you! Love the fabric! I think you should do some woodland stuff :) Like squirrels and toadstools and leaves and owls.....it would be darling! I would totally buy it.
ReplyDeleteFiona! No special reason, except I love the name Fiona. Congrats on the new machine! She looks like a beauty.
ReplyDeleteHow bout Naomi the Janome? =)
ReplyDeleteWell, how about Penelope? I think Penelope Pinwheel would be a cute name! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new machine. I think I would name her "Lola".
ReplyDeletePS. I love your fabric. You are definitely very talented.
c.rebold@sbcglobal.net
Well I like Violet in honor of her lovely color accents and I think it is a pretty name too!
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your new baby!
I think I'd name her Jenny. My first choice was Jammi-but that could bring bad luck!
ReplyDeleteIntroducing "Miss Polly" direct from the Pocketful of Pinwheels studio!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking "Essie" which would be a quick way to say the initials (SS) of her full name "Stitchin' Sidekick"!
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric!
Oooh, I have the same machine, you will love her. I like the name Zoe. It's short and sweet. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions on her!
ReplyDeleteteacher and quilter here.. let's just say a lot gets done during the summer. :)
ReplyDeletei say call her Athena-- the wisest of all goddesses (to bring you good judgement in sewing) and the goddess of war (to help you conquer all those projects in your future).
I like Juice- it has to be a real name because Miss Newton was named that :). And it's where all of your creative "juices" along with the machine's help will piece beatiful works of art!
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled to have some of your material- I have it all on my wish list!!

I am so happy for you. I know how hard you worked to get this machine. I can't wait to see all that you create with it. I have never named a sewing machine, so I am not going to be any help there. I did name my car in high school "The Silver Bullet" because it was, well, silver. It was a Plymouth Reliant so the name didn't really go too well. OK, I am rambling. Have fun and take care.
ReplyDeleteOhhhh...so envious!
ReplyDeletePersonally, she looks like a Jenny to me. Or a Melvin. To be honest, I'm torn. :)
Congrats on the new beauty!
Congratulations! She looks like a Janey to me!
ReplyDeletei think Bertha is a great workhorse name and i'm sure your machine will be a workhorse! i love your fabrics...they are magical.
ReplyDeleteHow about naming her the "Stitch Witch"?
ReplyDeletelittlefamily1997@msn.com
How exciting! How about Judy, sort of like Judy Jetson...
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new machine . . . what fun! Love your fabric and would love to win some!
ReplyDeleteWhat about naming her Posey or Pixie?
I like Alyss (and specifically, that spelling of Alice). It feels creative, and comfortable, friendly, and sweet. Just what you want when spending all that sewing time with her!
ReplyDeleteI personally think Gertrude, or Gertie for short, would be the perfect name. It's easy to say and is just a little ironic - what with the old name and the new, computerized machine. Congrats on your new "baby!"
ReplyDeleteOkay since it's a Janome I think that it needs a "J" name, but not just any "J" name, something older as quilting and sewing really has some tradition to it right.
ReplyDeleteSo what do I think . . . . Josephina, distinguished, refined, and able to have a short form "josie" when you need it!
Jemima. I don;t own a Janome, but I've used a 6600P, A LOT, and I think you are going to be pleased as punch with what you and Jemima can accomplish together.
ReplyDeletePrincess Buttercup, or just buttercup
ReplyDeleteI think you should call her Belle. You princesses need to stick together you know? She is now the princess that will help you with your work. Lord knows she was as much work to attain as any princess, right? You could use any of the princesses names but Belle is short and sweet like Ariel! Enjoy having her and I would love to have some of that wonderful fabric to go with the others that I have bought from you!
ReplyDeleteI think she looks like JANIE THE JANOME!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new machine. It is soo exciting to get a new machine.
Naomi... she was my best friend, and now she can be yours! Plus That was the first thing I thought of after Janomey :o) Alos I think the name means "pleasant". So hopefully you will have many pleasant nights/day sewing with her.
ReplyDeleteYour fabric designs are super cute! I've been eyeing them on etsy.
Hi Ariel, I just discovered your blog today. Congrats on the new arrival :D The first thought that popped to mind was Sally like the one on Nightmare Before Christmas because she was a gorgeous girl who's stitched together :)
ReplyDeleteI'm getting my Mums old machine looked at to see if it's still working and it will be called Alice which was suggested to me because of my love of a certain Mr Cooper ;)
What a lovely machine...Im sure you will have lots of good times with "little lady".
ReplyDeleteHappy Sewing!
She looks like "Petunia" to me...Happy Sewing with your new best friend!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteI would name her Mia
Your fabric design are pretty
It's gender confused! You can't sew on a female! Therefore your wonderful new machine must be a Goober!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - looks like a wonderful machine (I'm still using and old, used one).
ReplyDeleteHow about Sally?
I am so horrible at names. I looked at some of the previous comments and I really like a lot of the suggestions. My suggestion would be Poppy (the flower which signifies wealth, success, consolation, and pleasure). I would probably call her Princess Poppy :) or Miss Poppy

ReplyDeleteI like Sophie or Janey!
ReplyDeleteHI- her name should be Janny so she won't forget her roots (Janome). Get it? anyway, hope you enjoy her.
ReplyDeleteWow! You've got a lot of comments, but I'll stick in my two cents- Wilma! Why not? I hope you love it!

ReplyDeleteA La Mode fabric said...
ReplyDeleteSince, I have had a few moments to stare at this particular machine... { wink, wink }... I would name her ~ MARTHA ~ ... Not only is she clever, smart, and organized.... she will inspire you! :) Congrats Ariel!!!
XO, Heather
And, yes... I had a bit of trouble with my comment! LOL
I'm thinkin' Jezebel. She's a harlot who will woo you away from all practical matters that need tending but boy will she be fun when you have been wooed (is that a word) away--(insert evil little laugh here). Enjoy Ariel.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad no one has mentioned the name "Peri," because I think her beautiful periwinkle color is her personality. Non-gender specific, and friendly.
ReplyDeleteyour fabric is wonderful! I would love a piece to play with,,,
Congrats to your new friend! :) I think she definitely looks like a Blueberry! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy crafting you two!
Jane O. May (or Mei?)
ReplyDelete:-)
Well, I name all my computers "Mister", so I can whine, bitch and cajole them when they (inevitably) give me trouble. But maybe that's a poor strategy, and you should be showing proper respect by calling her Mam (though she does have a more Mam'zelle look about her), thus ensuring no trouble at all.
ReplyDeleteOf course, if I had such a machine, I'd just sit around petting it and calling it "presshhiousss".
Hey, Ariel...so excited for you! Since it's a Janome (right?), I think Naomi is a good name. Plus it's Biblical and will keep you positive in the midst of those frustrating moments :)
ReplyDeletelike your other readers, i think a "J" name:
ReplyDeletejessamyn
you can call her "jessie" or "minnie" for short.
Skip the J and just call her Gnome-y... Congrats on your new machine I just recently acquired a new piece of equipment and it has changed the way I sew... Happy gnewing :)
ReplyDeleteHope I'm still in time, I'll choose Rocking Momma because I just think the way it's going to sew, I'll be amazed if I have the chance to buy it, why Rocking? I guess it's going to soung like BRUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM when you start to sew, lol
